Dawson delivers for Planet X

CLEVER tactics engineered by the Planet X cyclists gave Kevin Dawson one of the top prizes in Irish cycling, the Shay Elliott Memorial Trophy, yesterday.

Originally from the Lake District in England, Dawson was right up with the action all day and although he is better known for his efforts as a time triallist, more or less instigated the winning move.

The peleton was on the outskirts of Ashford when the defining moment came for 12 of the original line-up of 136 competitors. They were all eager to set the pace and steadily drew clear of the bunch.

After 165 kilometres of racing on the outskirts of Bray, Dawson led over the line from Tanner his Planet X team mate with former FBD Milk Rás winners, David McCann and Andy Roche filling the third and fourth spots.
