Wimbledon tears for Ivanisevic

Roger Federer burst into tears when he won Wimbledon last year, but Goran Ivanisevic could start crying as soon as he walks onto Centre Court today.

This year Ivanisevic will play his last match ever at the All England Club, scene of his memorable final victory over Pat Rafter in 2001.

The 32-year-old, who also lost the singles final in 1992, 94 and 98, was prevented from defending his title by injury and will retire from competitive tennis when he loses at the championships.

Sadly that could come as soon as this afternoon as he faces talented Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the first round, but Ivanisevic cannot think of a more fitting place to stage a grand finale.

“Wimbledon is everything to me. It took a lot of years of my life but it gave me a lot. We have a special relationship.”
