Sanchez stage win captures yellow jersey

Spaniard Luis Sanchez, 21, representing Liberty Seguros, won the third stage of the Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under and with it took the coveted yellow jersey after yesterday’s 139km stage from the bayside suburb of Glenelg to the seaside town of Victor Harbour.

Sanchez crossed the line in 3:19:39, outsprinting 22-year-old Belgian Johan Van Summeren after the pair broke away from a lead group of 26 riders with 15km remaining. Australian Gene Bates, 22, (UniSA) led home the rest of the leaders, 16 seconds later, for third place.

Mayoman David O’Loughlin was placed 14th on the stage and is 25th overall, while the other Irish competitor, Ciaran Power faltered and has slipped out of contention.
