Boxer calls in spoon bender to stir support
McDonagh goes head to head with Michael Gomez as part of a six-fight undercard to the Bernard Dunne versus Noel Wilders clash at the National Stadium in Dublin next Saturday night.
A chance meeting between McDonagh and Geller on a flight to London led to the unusual pairing and Geller will accompany the Galway man to Dublin for the fight.
"Peter approached me on the flight and we had a good conversation. He is a very talented young man and he told me about his fight with Gomez," said Geller.
"I explained how I had helped Muhammad Ali decades ago and told him I could help do the same for him."
Geller rejects comparisons with the use of hypnosis by Steve Collins before his fight with Chris Eubank in 1995 a fight Collins won.
"What I'm doing with Peter is far more powerful than hypnosis. It's about getting Peter to become completely positive so that he knows it's a case of 'when' instead of 'if' he wins the fight," Geller added.
Gomez remains distinctly underwhelmed, by his opponents use of a paranormalist, saying there won't be any spoons to bend in the ring.
"The only thing I plan to bend is some of McDonagh's ribs with my body punches," warned Gomez.
