Athletics Ireland launch enquiry into Okanty performances

ATHLETICS Ireland have launched an enquiry into the recent performances of Samuel Okanty, who broke the national triple jump record at Landover, Maryland, earlier this month.

Yesterday, Athletics Ireland said the performance on January 10 was not going to be considered for national record purposes and would not be taken into consideration for selection purposes for the world indoor championships.

In a statement, officials said they were currently communicating with the IAAF regarding the legitimacy of his 17.19m performance at an event last June which ranked him 15th on the IAAF world lists.
