Europe Chief Ryder Cup officer praises early excitement levels for 2027 edition in Adare

Europe’s Chief Ryder Cup officer has praised the excitement levels already being generated in Ireland around the 2027 edition’s staging at Adare Manor in 16 months.

Golf’s biggest tournament, the biennial team match play event between Europe and the United States is set to return to Ireland for the second time, with the K Club in Kildare the first hosts in 2006.

The Limerick parkland course has a site capacity of approximately 55,000 spectators per day from September 13-19, 2027 with tickets for the 100th anniversary of the contest anticipated to be in high demand when they go on sale in the coming weeks.

Chief Ryder Cup Officer Richard Atkinson cited the interest in the 2,000 volunteering roles for the event as evidence of the growing excitement, with the ongoing recruitment process, which opened last month, already attracting 35,000 applicants from 87 different countries ahead of the April 1 cut-off. 

In addition to the traditional on-course marshal positions, Ryder Cup Europe are also looking to recruit a new volunteer role of ‘Ambassadors’ that they hope will support the overall fan experience and the smooth running of the event.

“There may be 16 months still to go until the 2027 Ryder Cup comes to Adare Manor and Limerick, but there is already considerable excitement across the island of Ireland,” Atkinson said. “We are making good progress with all elements of our planning and preparation for next year’s event, which is set to be one of the biggest sporting events ever to be staged in Ireland.

“We look forward to making some notable announcements in the coming months, including details of how Irish fans can get tickets and ensure they are part of the 100th anniversary of golf’s greatest team contest when it returns to Ireland for the first time since 2006.”

Plans are also in progress for a Year To Go event in Limerick this September to be attended by returning European captain Luke Donald and his still to be named American counterpart. Donald was reappointed to the captaincy on March 4 having led Europe to successive victories in Rome and at Bethpage, New York. He is attempting to become the first Ryder Cup captain from either team to win three in a row.

When tickets go on sale for the 2027 matches they will include three practice days, from Tuesday to Thursday, September 14–16, followed by three days of competition from Friday to Sunday, September 17-19.

Ryder Cup Europe have urged supporters not to book unsanctioned accommodation before they have secured tickets, while promising fair pricing at all price bands with plans being progressed to offer official camping, glamping and even cruise ship accommodation. 

The organisers are also stressing that various community initiatives will be in place aimed at ensuring as wide a demographic of ticket holders as possible to share the experience of what they view as a major global sporting event, one which is set to be one of the biggest ever to be staged in Ireland.
