Cork golfer Sara Byrne sidelined by gym injury — 'It has been a tough few weeks of acceptance'

The Douglas member, who secured her Ladies European Tour card for a second year with a strong finish to last season, is facing a spell away from golf.

Cork golfer Sara Byrne is off the European Tour at the moment due to an arm injury picked up the gym.

The Douglas member, who is a touring professional for Dromoland Castle, secured her Ladies European Tour card for a second year with a strong finish to last season, making four cuts in her last five events.

However, she has been unable to take part in any events so far this year.

Byrne explained her absence on her Instagram account: "Unfortunately in early January while walking out of the gym I had a bit of an accident and managed to fracture my radial head in my right elbow and partially tear both my UCL and MCL ligaments.

"It has been a tough few weeks of acceptance and a lot of rehab and physio but we are certainly on the mend."

Byrne was able to avoid surgery on the issues, but is unable to put a date yet on her return to tour.  

"We are 6 weeks into recovery as I thankfully did not need surgery. I am working as hard as possible to get back to walking the fairways once again and I will be back stronger than ever.

"I don’t know exactly when I’ll be back on tour but I will certainly be back very soon.

"2026 golf is just on pause for right now and I can’t wait to press the play button again sometime soon."
