Books

Remarkable Golf Courses, by Iain Spragg. This is an updated (2025) illustrated guide to the world’s most wonderful golf courses, detailing the remarkable extremes of the game, from the highest golf course in La Paz, Bolivia, to the lowest, in Death Valley, USA; and from the most northerly in the Arctic Circle to the most southerly in Tierra del Fuego. New courses are included, such as Ardfin on the Isle of Jura, but the old and famous favourites are still there. You can travel the world of golf courses every day, simply by turning the page.

Building Carne, by Eamon Mangan.

Carne, in Co. Mayo, is a golf links that stretches the imagination. Its scale, beauty and raw power can leave golfers speechless. Fortunately, one man who has not been left speechless is Eamon Mangan. One of the great powers behind making Carne a reality, Mangan has now put the story of the course’s evolution on paper. The book reveals the vision, the passion and how a community came together to make Carne a reality. Mangan is humble but the truth is that, without him, the masterpiece that is Carne Golf Links would not exist. Read the story behind one of the world’s most remarkable golf courses.

Available at www.mayobooks.ie/Building-Carne.

Rory Land: The Up-and-Down World of Golf's Global Icon, by Timothy M Gay.

After Rory’s Grand Slam-achieving success at the US Masters, it is little wonder that several books have appeared on book shop shelves in recent months. Rory Land may not focus on the quest for the ultimate Grand Slam success, but it does delve into his life, his commitment, his victories and aspirations – showing what he has achieved to take him to that Augusta Green Jacket.
