Séamus Power faces a scrap to retain his full PGA Tour card this week. The Waterford man plays the RSM Classic at Sea Island in Georgia, the season finale, needing to jump 29 places in the FedExCup Fall standings to keep full tour status.

Power is currently 129th in the rankings with the top 100 earning their full cards. Those outside the top 100 but inside the top 150 only receive conditional status, meaning they will have limited access to full-field events. In previous years, it had been the top 125 who received full cards but that has been reduced for 2026. Karl Vilips, the Australian who won the Puerto Rico Open this year, is at 100 in the rankings.

The 38-year-old Power, who reached 28th in the world rankings three years ago and is now 171st, has had a disappointing season. His only top-10 finish was at the Valspar Championship in March when he placed eighth. Power had suffered a long period of injury troubles but said earlier this year that he felt like he was returning to his best form.

At last week's Bermuda Championship, the two-time PGA Tour winner appeared to be on track to secure his card as he sat three shots off the lead going into the final round. However, a run of four bogeys in his final five holes dropped him to a tie for 11th. Takumi Kanaya had similar woes. The Japanese player bogeyed the last hole in Bermuda, dropping to a tie for third and costing him 19 places in the rankings. He comes into Sea Island at 99 in the standings. Power does at least have some form at Sea Island. He finished tied for fourth at this tournament in 2022 and tied for fifth a year later.

Meanwhile, Leona Maguire will tee off at the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club in Florida on Thursday. The Cavan golfer finished 56th in the standings with the top 60 qualifying for the tournament. $4m of the $11m in prize money will go to the winner. Maguire started well at The ANNIKA tournament last week, shooting 67 in her opening round to sit three shots off the lead. However, she could not match that scoring in the subsequent three rounds, shooting a two-over 72 on Friday and level-par 70s on Saturday and Sunday as she finished 52nd.
