Letter from PGA Championship: Sleepy Quail Hallow reawoke until Scottie Scheffler struck

As the man who turned in the Wanamaker Trophy after a year in possession of it said, it would be shocking if anybody other than Scheffler was holding it Sunday night.

The sleepiest PGA Championship in recent memory rustled awake late Saturday afternoon at Quail Hollow Club. Then world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler smothered the life out of it.

With a closing kick befitting the best player in the world, Scheffler played the last five holes of his third round in 5-under par to turn a one-shot deficit into a three-shot lead that seemed much wider than that.
