South African overcomes six-shot deficit to claim second DP World Tour title

South Africa's Shaun Norris claimed his second DP World Tour title on home soil after a final-round 67 proved enough to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

The 42-year-old started the day six shots off the lead but charged through the field courtesy of an eagle and five birdies, with a double bogey on the par-three seventh his only blemish.

A magnificent shot from a fairway bunker on the 18th set up a closing par as Norris set a testing clubhouse target of 13 under par.

Although many players in the final groups were still in contention to overtake Norris at that stage, Leopard Creek Country Club's difficult closing stretch picked off his challengers one by one until only Ryan van Velzen — in the very last group — had a realistic chance of denying Norris a play-off.

But the young South African, who headed to the 18th tee level with Norris on 13 under, found the water with his approach at the last and his resulting bogey saw Norris claim a one-shot victory to add to the Steyn City Championship title he won in 2022.

Norris also tasted victory at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup in Japan two weeks ago and he said: "I'm very happy that it worked out this way.

"Words can't describe (winning a second DP World Tour title). This last year has been very tough. It's been up and down and all over the place.

"But thanks to God, my family, my wife, we've kept it together.

"Winning two weeks ago in Japan and then winning this week — what a blessing."

England's John Parry, third-round leader Marcus Kinhult and Van Velzen finished in a three-way tie for second, one shot behind Norris, on 12 under.

Tom McKibben finished on five-under in a tie for 24th.
