Shane Lowry’s decision to end his sponsorship agreement with Irish insulation company Kingspan may have come three years too late for the bereaved families of the Grenfell Tower fire victims but it should still be welcomed.

The Guardian revealed last week that the group representing the families of the 72 victims who lost their lives when a west London council tower block was consumed by flames in June, 2017 had written to the Irish golfer several times to ask him to remove Kingspan’s logo from his sleeve, given it was the company that made some of the combustible foam insulation used in what proved to be a fatal refurbishment of the tower.
