Anna Abom’s last two days of the summer holidays were finalised at Carton House on Friday. The Dublin teenager will be spending them competing in the third and fourth rounds of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.

Abom, 18, is about to embark on her final Leaving Cert year of school at Ashfield College in Dundrum with term starting on Monday. Yet a sparkling two-under-par 71 on the O’Meara course has catapulted the amateur invitee into the weekend of this Ladies European Tour event.

The Edmondstown golfer will start her third round at three under par, a shot behind Ireland’s leading professional Leona Maguire and seven shots off the lead held by Finland’s Urusla Wikstrom. Making the cut is the latest golfing achievement for the Abom family with brother Thomas winning the AIG Irish Close at Dun Laoghaire and her other sibling Liam claiming the Irish Intervarsity title last October.

"I'm absolutely delighted,” Anna Abom said. “I’ve really enjoyed the experience.

"I think I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing, I've been enjoying the week as much as I can and yeah, it's just a bonus to be able to play an extra two days.

"I'm starting (school) on Monday so I think it's going to be a bit of a shock to the system!"
