Shane Lowry: 'I feel like I'm a better player than when winning the Open in 2019'

“We’ll see what decisions the people at the top make. A lot more goes into it… infrastructure. To have it back in Portrush next year is great. To have it anywhere on the island at all is great. I’m very excited about that.”

BETTER PLAYER: Shane Lowry has always insisted that an Open title at Royal Portrush would have been his first choice had he been offered the choice of winning just one of the majors. Pic: Scott Taetsch via Getty Images

Shane Lowry has always insisted that an Open title at Royal Portrush would have been his first choice had he been offered the choice of winning just one of the majors. And now? What if he was offered the choice to win a second?

“The Open in 2025 in Portrush! I’ve said that since I won it. When I sit down when I finish, if you were to give me all the tournaments that I played and pick one to win, that would be it. And there wouldn’t even be a close second to it.” Look, the man isn’t picky. He wouldn’t turn his nose up at a green jacket, there is a US Open at Pinehurst and an Open at Royal Troon to keep him occupied this summer, but lifting that Claret Jug for a second time in Co. Antrim next year would be something.
