WATCH: Heartbreak hotel for Phil Mickelson as ball lands on balcony

Phil Mickelson was having a great run at St Andrews until his ball decided to check into a nearby hotel.

He was six under for the day when he lined up his tee shot on the 17th - where it all went terribly wrong.

The ball was ruled out of bounds and he ended up dropping three shots on the hole.

The general consensus online was that golf fanswould have loved to see him play the shot.

Phil did not hit the ball from the hotel balcony, but he secretly wanted to.
