McIlroy makes a little boy’s day

Rory McIlroy wasn’t having the best time on the golf course over the weekend, but his kind gesture left one young golf fan overjoyed.

The Holywood golfer came in for some criticism earlier this year, after appearing to brush off a boy looking for an autograph.

There were no such complaints at the BMW Championship in Colorado when McIlroy handed a fan a golf ball as he was walking between holes on the final day of the tournament.

He couldn’t have picked a better recipient - this little guy really knew how to celebrate.

McIlroy was gracious despite having a weekend to forget, including four-putting the par-three twelfth hole on Saturday and again on Sunday.

He finished the tournament in eighth place, six shots off winner Billy Horschel.
