Rory McIlroy has extended his lead at the top of the world rankings following his victory in the US PGA Championship on Sunday.

McIlroy recovered from losing his overnight lead at one stage during the fourth round to card a closing 68 at Valhalla and finish 16 under par, one shot ahead of Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson moved up from 13th to ninth as a result of his performance, knocking Tiger Woods out of the top 10 after the former world number one missed the cut. Henrik Stenson’s share of third place moved him above Sergio Garcia to third.
