Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren were both finding it hard to follow up their second rounds 63s when the Castello Masters resumed in Spain today.

Garcia, two ahead overnight on 12 under par on his home course Mediterraneo, bogeyed the third, while the Swede – twice a winner already this season – took six on the long fourth.

England’s Richard McEvoy, 125th on the European Tour money list and needing to improve 10 places to keep his card for next year, took advantage by moving only one behind Garcia with birdies at the second, third and fifth.

Noren slipped to joint third with first round leader Ross McGowan and Australian Marcus Fraser.
