2009 Irish Open champion Shane Lowry has qualified for the US Open in Congressional.

The Offaly native was one of the most impressive performers at today's 36-hole qualifying tournament at Walton Heath.

Fresh from his joint-fourth place finish at Wentworth on Sunday, Lowry comfortably made it through after finishing on eight under after rounds of 69 and 67 today.

Former Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie was among the players to miss out.

Boosted by his seventh place in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth – his first top 10 finish for almost three years – Montgomerie managed only a one over par total of 145.
