Challenge to raise funds for Seve foundation

Seve Ballesteros is calling on golfers across the United Kingdom to help fight brain cancer by asking their club to take part in a National Golf Club Challenge on July 23-24 – the week after The Open at Sandwich.

The Stableford event will help raise funds for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, which is working together with Cancer Research UK to fund life-saving research.

The top-scoring sides will be invited to compete in the national final in September at The Shire London, the only Ballesteros-designed course in the country.

Almost two and a half years on from collapsing with a tumour, the three-time Open champion is still fighting his own battle and he told europeantour.com: “By signing up to the challenge clubs all over the UK can enjoy the sport while raising money.

“There are more than five million golfers in the UK and if just a small proportion of those got involved we’d be well on our way to reaching our target and making a real impact on the lives of people like me who are diagnosed with brain cancer.”

Justin Rose, a strong supporter of Cancer Research UK, added: ’“Please show your support for the great man and sign up.”
