Scot Paul Lawrie, chasing a first victory since 2002, and Spain's Ricardo Gonzalez were joint leaders after 18 holes having both matched Hedblom's seven-under round yesterday but neither could break 70 this time.

Hedblom is nine-under overall having signed for a first-round 69.

The Swede eagled the par-five eighth and also picked up shots on six other holes as well as dropping one on the ninth.

Lawrie has a share of second after carding 70 - a round that included four birdies alongside three bogeys.

Also tied on eight-under are Spain's Gonzalo Fdez-Castano and Italian Matteo Manassero.

Four men are locked on seven-under with Alvaro Velasco, another Spaniard, leaping 48 places with a 64 of his own to join Ricardo Gonzalez, Christian Nilsson, Gregory Bourdy.

Irishman Peter Lawrie matched the top rounds of the day with a 64 that included six birdies and an eagle.

Returning Ryder Cup vice captain Sergio Garcia added a 73 to his first day 71 to sit two-over and should miss the cut.
