Colin Montgomerie confirmed tonight that he will be stepping down as Ryder Cup captain after the nail-biting win at Celtic Manor.

Colin Montgomerie confirmed tonight that he will be stepping down as Ryder Cup captain after the nail-biting win at Celtic Manor.

“This is a one-hit time – I will not be doing this again,” he said. “I think it’s only right that it should be shared around.”

Jose Maria Olazabal is favourite to take over for Chicago in 2012 with Ireland’s Paul McGinley, another of the assistants in Wales, expected to lead Europe at Gleneagles in 2014.
