Familiar contest for Irish pair
Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy were given a second crack at Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar when the Ryder Cup switched from fourballs to foursomes.
They were the last game out, having taken a point from their first contest.
Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker were put first by American Corey Pavin, but because their opening game against Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher went to the 18th this morning their next clash against Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson was pushed back.
All 24 players were involved rather than the usual 16 as the event tried to make up for the seven hours lost to rain yesterday.
Italian brothers Edoardo and Franco Molinari entered the match like their opponent Zach Johnson and Hunter Mahan and they started the session off.
Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer, Europe’s only winner in the fourballs, took on Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler, playing their first game of the week.
Luke Donald was put with Poulter rather than Padraig Harrington, who became Fisher’s partner.
