Trio in Czech play-off

Ryder Cup-chasing Swede Peter Hanson, needing to win the Czech Open to move into Europe’s top nine with one week of the race to go, went into a play-off with Ireland’s Peter Lawrie and England’s Gary Boyd today.

Hanson was four clear with a round to go, but had three successive bogeys early on and, after climbing back into the lead, double-bogeyed the 12th.

Lawrie set the target of 10 under with a 66, Boyd birdied the last to catch him with a 68 and then Hanson joined them with a four on the long 16th and two closing pars.

England’s Simon Dyson, also requiring victory to move into an automatic qualifying spot, finished two strokes behind after bogeying the par-five 16th.
