No guarantee for Kaymer, says Monty

Colin Montgomerie claimed "lost in translation" today after a German newspaper quoted him as saying that Martin Kaymer was "already in the team" for Celtic Manor in October.

Colin Montgomerie claimed "lost in translation" today after a German newspaper quoted him as saying that Martin Kaymer was "already in the team" for Celtic Manor in October.

Kaymer, 11th in the world, is sixth in the Ryder Cup standings and by no means certain of an automatic place with more than two months in the race still to run.

Montgomerie explained: "Martin is in the team as it stands - there are no guarantees. What I said yesterday was lost in translation somewhere."

Nine players qualify automatically at the end of August with the Scot adding three wild cards.

Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Ross Fisher and Robert Karlsson are among the players currently in need of a pick, so if Kaymer was to drop out of the top nine he would face stiff competition.
