Durrant leads in Mexico

Joe Durant remained two shots clear of the field after the third round of the PGA Tour Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun.

The 45-year-old Floridian, a four-time Tour winner but looking for his first victory since 2006, birdied the last two holes on Saturday to add a two-under-par 69 to his first two rounds of 64 and 66.

After posting only one bogey in his opening two rounds, Durant dropped three shots in two holes over the third and fourth on Saturday.

Nevertheless, his 14-under 54-hole total left him two strokes ahead of Charles Warren (65) and JP Hayes (69) and three clear of Chad Collins (67) and Cameron Beckman (69).

On his chances of completing a wire-to-wire victory on Sunday, he said: "I need to play better than today. But I feel confident.

"I'm doing a lot of things well. I'm driving the ball well. So if I can do that and putt a little better, I do feel confident."

He added: "It always helps just having been in this position a number of times and knowing the kind of round you need to play on Sunday to win a golf tournament.

"At least you know in your mind what you need to do. Whether you do it or not, who knows? Experience always helps."
