Nike stand by Woods
Tiger Woods’ main sponsor Nike say they are looking forward to the player’s return to golf after he announced he was taking an indefinite break to repair his troubled marriage.
Woods admitted he had been unfaithful to wife Elin and would now take time off to spend time with her and their two children in a bid to keep the family together.
Woods’ wholesome image has taken a huge battering in the two weeks following a car crash outside his home, with a string of women coming forward claiming to have had affairs with the world’s number one golfer.
It was feared it may have an impact on his marketability but sportswear firm Nike, who signed a multi-year contract with Woods in 2006, are standing by their athlete.
“He is the best golfer in the world and one of the greatest athletes of his era,” Nike spokeswoman Beth Gast said in a statement.
“We look forward to his return to golf. He and his family have Nike’s full support.”
