McIlroy tops money list

Rory McIlroy could not quite make it the perfect 50th birthday for his father Gerry, but joint second place at St Andrews yesterday was still good enough to take him top of the European Tour money list for the first time in his career.

The 20-year-old partnered McIlroy Snr in the celebrity pro-am – but starting the final day one behind Luke Donald and finishing it three behind Simon Dyson meant it was all he had hoped for.
