Stricker burns brightest in Boston

Steve Stricker birdied the last two holes to take a dramatic victory in the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.

Stricker went level with clubhouse leaders Jason Dufner and Scott Verplank, who closed on 16 under for the tournament, on the 17th green before gaining another stroke on the par-5 18th to take the title.

Dufner and Verplank had previously been set for extra holes after shooting rounds of 65 and 67 respectively to sign for 268 over four rounds.

Argentina’s Angel Cabrera was the highest-ranked non-American, his six-under 65 enough to secure him fourth place.

Padraig Harrington, who was out on his own at the top of the leaderboard after birdying four of his first nine holes, finished two shots off the pace after slipping back to three-under for the day.

Tiger Woods, out of realistic contention following his third-round 72, returned the best score of the day.

But his scintilating 63, a round that included eight birdies and an eagle at the sixth, was only enough to earn him a share of 11th.
