France’s Gregory Havret, who led last year’s Johnnie Walker Championship from start to finish, instantly made his presence felt again at Gleneagles today.

Havret, whose victory was overshadowed by the race for places in Europe’s Ryder Cup team, was five under par after 11 holes and only one behind Australian Wade Ormsby.
