American Ryan Moore broke his US PGA tour duck at Greensboro’s Wyndham Championship but not before being taken to a three-way play-off by Kevin Stadler and Jason Bohn.

Moore, a former US amateur champion, birdied the third extra hole to see off Stadler after Bohn was eliminated two tees earlier.

The trio finished 16 under for the tournament, one ahead of Spain Sergio Garcia, who is sure to be disappointed with his final day round of par 70.

The Ryder Cup star was loose on the back nine but could still have made it a four-way shootout had his bunker shot at the 18th not held up at the edge of the hole.

Moore signed for a 65 in his fourth round, while Bohn hit a superb 62 to join him on a total of 264.

England’s Justin Rose carded a 68 to take a share of fifth place in $5.1m (€3.6m) event.

Chris Riley endured a disappointing day having started the day atop the leaderboard alongside Garcia, hitting a four-over 74 and winding up five shots off the pace.
