Monty hits trouble as Hansen clims French leaderboard

Any lingering hopes Colin Montgomerie had of putting pressure on the overnight leaders at the French Open Alstom appeared to have gone in one hole today.

Having charged from 62nd to 11th with his third-round 65, Montgomerie’s approach to the first hit the sleeper on the edge of the green and bounded into the lake.

A double bogey six dropped him to three under, eight adrift of Argentina’s Rafa Echenique, who was one in front of German Martin Kaymer.

Ryder Cup Dane Soren Hansen, however, became a contender when he went to the turn in 32 and then birdied the 10th and 11th to be eight under and joint fourth.
