When Nick Faldo advised people last September to “bring your waterproofs” to next year’s Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor he should have included this week’s Wales Open in his message.

The third round of the tournament was delayed by heavy rain this morning after 35mm fell on the Twenty Ten course – most of it in a three-hour period during the night – and there was to be no play before 11am at the earliest.
