Aiken misses cut after collapse

South African Thomas Aiken went from joint leader to out of the tournament in a nightmare collapse at the European Open today.

After eight holes of his second round Aiken was eight under par, but he then bogeyed the ninth and took 46 on the windswept back nine – including a triple bogey seven on the 443-yard 14th and quadruple bogey nine at the next.

His 81 left him three over, two strokes too many to survive.

American star John Daly, meanwhile, bogeyed the last two holes to miss by two at the end of his five-week stay in Europe.

And defending champion Ross Fisher double-bogeyed the 471-yard last to go from one inside the cut mark to one outside it.

Fellow Englishman Kenneth Ferrie, winner in 2005, crashed out on seven over like Irish Open amateur winner Shane Lowry – and has now failed to make the cut in all 10 tournaments he has played since returning to Europe from America.
