Jimenez makes his move

Miguel Angel Jimenez finally made his presence felt at the Spanish Open in Girona today by racing to the turn in a five under par 31.

Yet it still left the 45-year-old Ryder Cup player seven strokes adrift of his former cup partner Thomas Levet.

With the wind predicted to pick up later in the third round Jimenez was still hoping to get into a position to challenge for his national title tomorrow, however.

After a wind-affected 74 in the second round – he did not have the luck of the draw like Levet, second-placed Soren Hansen and third-placed Peter Lawrie, the defending champion – he resumed 12 behind.

Birdies came on the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth, but he failed to pick up further strokes on the two par fives going out.

Frenchman Levet was two ahead of Hansen and three clear of Lawrie overnight after rounds of 64 and 67 for a 13 under par halfway total.
