Yang the big mover in rankings

South Korean YE Yang has climbed more than 300 places in the world rankings after capturing his first US Tour victory at the Honda Classic in Florida.

The 37-year-old, who had not had a top 10 finish in his previous 28 events in the States, moves up from 460th to 146th.

Beating American John Rollins by one shot earned Yang a place in next month’s Masters at Augusta and this week’s WGC-CA Championship in Miami, where Tiger Woods will continue his comeback from injury.

Not that taking on the world number one will bother Yang unduly – Woods was in the field when he won the 2006 HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

Rory McIlroy stays 16th in the rankings after coming joint 13th in his second professional event in America, but by finishing alongside him Davis Love improves from 53rd to 50th and so squeezes into the World Championship field by one-thousandth of a point from Dane Anders Hansen.
