Perry leads in Scottsdale
Kenny Perry has taken the lead after the third round of the FBR Open.
Perry carded a five-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead at 12-under in Scottsdale, Arizona.
A three-time winner last season, Perry closed with a birdie on the 18th to break a tie at the top of the leaderboard with Scott Piercy.
Winless and without a top-10 finish in 22 career PGA starts, Piercy has vaulted up the leaderboard thanks to a 66 of his own. Piercy was eight-under through 13 holes, but he stumbled home with bogeys at number 14, 15 and 17.
Piercy, who won twice on the Nationwide Tour last year, had five birdies on the front nine and added three more after making the turn.
Kevin Na and Brian Gay are tied for third at 10-under 203. Na fired a 66 and Gay a 67 to move into contention.
JB Holmes saw his bid to win this tournament for a third straight year end on Friday when he missed the cut.
Local favourite Phil Mickelson, a two-time winner who was making his 2009 debut, also failed to make it to the weekend.
