Paul McGinley is the best-placed of the Irish competitors following the second round of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in the US state of Ohio last night.

The Dubliner carded a 67 yesterday to move to three under par, just four shots adrift of leader Vijay Singh and three adrift of second-placed Phil Mickelson.

Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke are both one over par at the midway stage, while Padraig Harrington dropped five shots yesterday to end the day on four over par.

McGinley will be looking for an impressive performance over the weekend to keep alive his hopes of a place in this year's European Ryder Cup team.
