Walton qualifies for Open Championship

Ireland's Phillip Walton has qualified for this year's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

The 46-year-old has gained entry as winner of the qualifying tournament at West Lancashire.

Walton last held a European Tour card three years ago.

Also qualifying for this year's Open is Jean Van der Velde, the man who threw away victory at Carnoustie in 1999.

He was among the top 12 finishers at West Lancashire.
