Virus forces Westwood out

Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood has withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship on the US PGA Tour because of a virus.

The English golfer has taken the last fortnight off since finishing joint 11th at the Masters but was due to return to action at Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, this week.

However, illness has delayed his comeback but the 35-year-old, who currently leads the Ryder Cup rankings, will be hopeful of recovering in time to play in next week's Players Championship at Sawgrass.
