Peter Hedblom of Sweden put himself into position for a successful defence of his Maybank Malaysian Open title after he took a two-stroke lead at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club.

The Swede trailed two strokes behind Nick Dougherty, Jyoti Randhawa of India and Danny Chia of Malaysia at the start of the third round but moved ahead after he carded a bogey-free 65 on the 6,979-yard layout near Kuala Lumpur.
