Warren Abery claimed sole lead of the Joburg Open midway through the second round after slip-ups from overnight leaders Tyrone Ferreira and Mark Murless allowed their compatriot to take charge of the £825,000 tournament.

Heavy overnight rain delayed the start by an hour at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club but when play resumed the 34-year-old from Durban was in sparkling form with a six-under round of 65 to leave him seven under for the championship.
