Vancsik hotly pursued

Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik birdied the first two holes of his final round and still only led by one in the low-scoring Portugal Masters in Vilamoura.

Already 18 under par overnight Vancsik holed putts of 15 and 12 feet, but when he failed to add another at the long third he had England’s Steve Webster, South African Charl Schwartzel and Swede Robert Karlsson right on his heels again.

Lee Westwood kept himself in the hunt with two birdies in the first four.

At 17 under he was three behind and joint fifth with two more Swedish players, Peter Hanson and Fredrik Andersson.

Eighteen-year-old Rory McIlroy finished his fourth event as a professional with a 68 for seven under.

He was still outside the top 50, but with a third and fourth place finish the last two weeks he took his earnings to more than £190,000.
