Nick Dougherty overcame an attack of the nerves to capture his second European Tour title in the Alfred Dunhill Links championship at St Andrews.

The 25-year-old from Liverpool, who led by three strokes going into the final day’s play, recovered from slipping to successive bogeys on his opening two holes and posted a one-under 71 for an 18-under aggregate of 270.
