Welsh Walker Cup player Rhys Davies, who qualified for the US Open in June, has turned professional and become a stablemate of Tiger Woods and Colin Montgomerie at International Management Group.

The former British boy champion won both his singles matches at last weekend’s match against the Americans.

During a scholarship at East Tennessee State University he lifted 10 titles and in his junior year had the best stroke average in college golf.

Davies will compete in European Tour qualifying starting at St Annes Old Links Golf Club in Lancashire next week.

He said: “I am really looking forward to getting out there. I have enjoyed every minute of my amateur career and I think between the competitions I have played here and the experience of playing four years of college golf I have really prepared myself well for the Tour.”
