Scotland’s Mhairi McKay claimed a share of second place as Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa again underlined her dominance of the women’s game with victory at the Safeway Classic in Oregon.

Glasgow-born McKay shot an even-par 72 in the final round which left her level with three other players – In-Bee Park, Christina Kim and Sophie Gustafson.

McKay’s round included five birdies and three bogeys, but a double bogey at the par-four 17th denied her outright second place.

Ochoa finished five shots clear of the field with a one-under-par final round to secure her third straight tournament success, having won the Women’s British Open and the Canadian Women’s Open earlier this month.

On the heels of shooting a six-under-par 66 in Saturday’s second round, Ochoa rebounded after two early bogeys to card birdies in four of her next seven holes.

Conservative play and a formidable lead enabled the Mexican to coast to the finish at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club.

England’s Lindsey Wright shot 74 to finish in a tie for 17th while Wales’ Becky Morgan’s even-par 72 earned a tie for 45th.

Laura Davies of England was three over-par in the final round to finish 60th.
