The Calgarian is on seven-under 133 for the tournament and is one shot clear of four players.

Derek Gillespie, Andrew Parr, John Shin and Lee Curry are all six under while a further four players are a shot behind on 135.

"It was just one of those days where I didn't make too many mistakes," Heffernan said on the tournament's official website.

"Maybe I left a couple out there but I stole a few too."
