Havret soars up the rankings

Gregory Havret’s Scottish Open victory has lifted him from 320th in the world to 115th heading into this week’s Open at Carnoustie.

The Frenchman defied the odds to beat Phil Mickelson with a par on the first hole of a play-off, the American star bogeying the final hole and then doing the same in sudden death.

Mickelson still goes ahead of Jim Furyk and back into the world number two spot, while Ernie Els, who finished third, improves to fourth ahead of Australian Adam Scott.
