US Open champion Cabrera set for K Club
New US Open champion Angel Cabrera will return to action at next week's Smurfit Kappa European Open at the K Club near Dublin.
After declining an invitation to take part in last week's event in Germany and then withdrawing from this week's French Open, it had been rumoured that Cabrera, the first Argentinian to win a major for 40 years, would not play until the Barclays Scottish Open the week before the Open at Carnoustie.
But he has now decided to go for the same double of US and European Open crowns achieved by Retief Goosen three years ago.
Cabrera has had six top 10 finishes in the tournament, the highlight of which was his second place in 2000. He led after 54 holes then, but lost by a stroke to England's Lee Westwood.
Cabrera said: "I have always enjoyed playing in Ireland. There's a great atmosphere about the K Club and I've done well there in the past."
