Sterne earns Open place

Richard Sterne’s victory in the Wales Open at Celtic Manor has made him one of 14 players to book places in next month’s Open championship at Carnoustie.

The South African climbed from 59th to 35th in the world rankings and as a consequence knocked compatriot Tim Clark – runner-up at last year’s Masters - out of the top 50 and out of an exempt Open spot by 0.01 points.
